The ACM CSCW conference is a leading forum for presenting and discussing research and development achievements concerning the use of computer technologies to support collaborative activities, as well as the impact of digital collaboration technologies on users, groups, organizations and society. Relevant research topics include theoretical and empirical investigations of collaborative activity, as well as all aspects of the design, development, deployment and study of computer technology supporting collaborative endeavors. However, CSCW encompasses all areas of collaborative activity supported by technology -- not just "work" in the traditional sense. So, in addition to exploring work places and work practices, we also encourage submissions that explore the applications of collaborative technology to areas such as the domestic environment, entertainment, health and education. Specific topics of interest might include augmented environments for collaborative activity, studies of specific work settings, the use of the Internet in the home, technologies for organisational knowledge sharing, the impact of Internet technologies on organisational life, or collaborative practices in education. General Inquiries:
The Student Volunteer program is one of the most important parts of every CSCW conference. The SVs take care of many essential tasks during the conference -- without them, many conference necessities wouldn't happen. In exchange for 20 hours of volunteer work, students receive a number of benefits, including complimentary conference registration and an invitation to the conference reception. Volunteers must be undergraduate, Master's, or doctoral students during the 1999-2000 academic year. All students, regardless of discipline, are encouraged to apply. No experience is required. We are looking for enthusiastic, intelligent, reliable people. Volunteers must commit to a total of 20 volunteer hours of work at the conference. If you are interested in being a CSCW 2000 student volunteer you may sign up using the online application form (see below). If you have difficulty using the online form, please contact the Student Volunteer Co-Chairs by email (cscw2000-svchairs@acm.org). The list of student volunteers is available at: http://www.research.att.com/~brian/cscw/sv.html What should a Student Volunteer expect? Here's an online handbook designed for CSCW'98. The CSCW2000 handbook will be available shortly. Contact:
