This is where CHI 99 presenters can come to see what audio-visual and computing resources will be available for their presentations. Also on this page is information on speaker breakfasts, shipping information, and presenter preparation.

Technology Equipment Assignments

Please check your session room on the day of your presentation to verify that the equipment that was authorized for your session is listed.

All equipment is assigned per room, per day. So there may be equipment listed in the room that you did not request - this is not a problem.

The authorized equipment reflects direct requests made by presenters from their AV/CS form that was returned with the camera ready copy. Final decisions about equipment authorized for rooms was made by consultation with the CHI 99 Conference Co-Chairs, the CHI 99 technology liaison, the technology professionals and the conference manager.

If you have any questions about the equipment that is assigned to your session room, please contact your area chair for your submission category at:

chi99-demos@acm.org
chi99-latebreak@acm.org
chi99-panels@acm.org
chi99-papers@acm.org
chi99-tutorials@acm.org

At CHI 99, there will be complete listing of all equipment assigned to each room by day located in the Speaker Preparation Room in the Convention Center.

To find out what AV/Computing resources are available for your presentation from our online list:

  1. Determine the day and time of the session for your presentation. Use the Advance Program if you do not recall when your presentation is.
  2. Select the appropriate session-time link below to get you to the right section of the "AV & Computing Master List."
  3. Scroll to find your particular session within that timeframe. Try viewing the "All Day" section if you do not appear in your exact time.
Select the link for the day/time of your session. You will be taken to the corresponding section of the master index, where you can scroll to find your particular session. The master index is large (40k), so it will take a moment to load.

Presenter Preparation Information

CHI 99 is almost here, and its success now depends on your success. To help you be successful we wanted to share a few reminders:
  • Send copies of your presentation visuals and a one paragraph biography of the presenter to the session chair by May 5, 1999. This will result in a more effective introduction of your work.
  • A speaker preparation room will be available in Room South 5 at the Convention Center, and you can rehearse your presentation in Room South 7. Please sign up for time as soon as you are on site since we expect a high demand for the rooms.
  • Please show up for your session at least one half hour ahead of time to ensure A/V and computing support by the time the session starts. Otherwise, you may be on your own!
  • Unless special arrangements have been made and confirmed, only expect the standard supplies in the presentation room. We believe we have provided for most people's needs. Please check the CHI99 web site at X to see what we are planning to provide for you. If you need anything additional, you should bring it with you.
  • Work with your session chair if you have questions before the conference. Student volunteers will be available to help when they can during the conference. (Be generous with and appreciative of the volunteers. They are volunteering to help you.)
  • Stick to your scheduled time, even if another speaker has an emergency and cannot show up. People may move from session to session specifically at your scheduled time just to hear you. You need to be there when they arrive.
  • Remember that for you and the audience to have the best experience, you should adjust your talk so that at least 25% of your time is left for questions and answers (e.g., that would typically be 7 minutes for Q&A and 23 minutes for presentation).
  • It is critical that your talk and Q&A stay within your allotted time. This is simply good, professional manners. Your session chair is there to help you pace yourself (and is authorized to do all sorts of things to help you J).

PLEASE NOTE: Don't forget that on the morning of your presentation, the lead presenter of your submission should attend the Lead Presenter Orientation breakfast. This will be located in Room North 12 in the Convention Center at 7:30 AM. This is important since it is where you will hear last minute instructions about your session. It is also a great opportunity to meet the other presenters in your session, and the person presenting your material should be sure to seek them out.

A final observation on behalf of the conference is that you should thank those who are there to help you, you should respect your audience and your colleagues, and you should have fun. May your presentation be remembered with awe long after it finishes!
