What is this lottery system all about? (updated October 21)
Find out about the proposed lottery system for assigning duties, and why you should even care.

When or how do I register for the conference? (updated July 31)
Signing up to be a Student Volunteer does not mean you are automatically registered for the conference. You will have to do this yourself. Because there is no registration fee for Student Volunteers, you will need to register in a special way. The forms which enable you to do this are not available until January. We will announce the URL and accompanying procedure in December. Until then, you need not worry about registration.

As a volunteer at CHI 98, what costs will I be responsible for? (updated July 31)
Being an SV covers registration for the conference and one full-day tutorial. We will be able to provide some meals during the conference, but nothing as lavish as previous conferences offered.

You'll be responsible for covering everything else: travel to and from L.A., meals not provided by the conference hotel, and housing. We're working on getting discounted housing for SV's but have nothing firm yet.
