List of categories
Short Talks and Interactive Posters
Deadline:
13 December 1999
The Short Talks and Interactive Posters category provides an opportunity to present research and practice in HCI without the demands of a formal paper structure. Submissions should be two-page papers to be published in the CHI 2000 Extended Abstracts, on acceptance. In addition, authors who wish their work to be considered for Interactive Posters should include a one-page diagram showing the proposed layout.
Short Talks and Interactive Posters are particularly suitable for exciting new findings, ongoing work that has demonstrated special promise, preliminary results, work that is at once timely and still in a state to be influenced by questions and discussions, or tightly argued essays or opinion pieces. The goal for this category is to provide a short, concise report of work that is important and likely to have high impact on the CHI community. The two-page submission should include: a concise description of the idea; your results or findings; implications of your work to the field of HCI; and recommendations for further investigation.
Full literature searches are not expected, although relevant citations should be included. Summaries of wider findings or reduced versions of longer papers are not suitable for the Short Talks and Interactive Posters submission category.
Review Criteria
Each submission will be reviewed on the basis of its contribution to HCI, validity of the results, originality of work, interest value to the HCI community, and quality of presentation. In addition, its suitability for presentation as a Short Talk or an Interactive Poster will be considered. Because of the availability of conference space and resources, most accepted submissions will be presented as Interactive Posters. Authors may indicate their preference for presentation as a Short Talk or an Interactive Poster, but the final decision will be made by the Short Talks and Interactive Posters Co-Chairs.
Format
Prepare a two-page camera-ready paper (referred to as the Extended Abstract) in the CHI Conference Publications Format including title, author information, abstract, keywords, body and references. You must prepare an additional electronic version as a PDF or Word file. If you are unable to do so, contact one of the Short Talks and Interactive Posters Co-chairs for alternative instructions. Prepare the electronic version following the instructions in Instructions for Electronic Submissions to Short Talks and Interactive Posters.
In addition, authors who wish their work to be considered for Interactive Posters should include a one-page diagram of the overall poster layout, which will not be part of the Extended Abstract. Prepare the electronic version of your diagram if possible, following the instructions in Instructions for Electronic Submissions to Short Talks and Interactive Posters.
Upon Acceptance
Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email by 30 January 2000. Please note that due to publication schedules, revisions will not be possible. Please ensure that your paper is clearly written, carefully proofread, and correctly formatted.
If your submission is accepted as an Interactive Poster, prepare a poster presenting your ideas to bring to the conference. Be sure to consult the Poster Preparation Guidelines before preparing your poster.
At the Conference
Short Talks will be scheduled for 10 minutes ofpresentation with up to 5 minutes for discussion. Only standard technology support will be provided for Short Talks.
The Interactive Poster will be displayed during the conference in an area where people walk around and meet during breaks. Authors are required to be available at the poster during a scheduled poster session for discussion with the attendees.
